Andy Davidson who runs Mini First Aid Norfolk, knows first-hand just how important it is to stay calm and act quickly in a medical emergency. When Andy’s son was just five years old, he shattered the bones in his elbow in an accident during a children’s party. Andy describes in his own words what happened:

“After copious amounts of jelly and ice cream at the party, Adam decided to go on the bouncy castle. Unfortunately, an adult also decided to go on at the same time and pushed the castle floor up at the same time as Adam was coming down.  Adam landed arm first and shattered the bones in his elbow.  I received a call from a hysterical party host who did not have a clue what to do. By the time I arrived, the ambulance had still not been called so I took him to A&E.  Adam was operated on immediately and due to the party food underwent major complications under anaesthetic.  He has still to this day not regained full movement of his arm.

Learning first aid is a ‘must have’ essential life skill. People need to be able to do something positive and practical to increase the chances of recovery or ultimately, to save a life.”

Having been through this experience with his son, Andy is passionate about the power and importance of learning first aid. Andy says:

“For me, first aid is a life skill just like swimming or riding a bike.  Some of the statistics you read are terrifying, about adults and parents who would not have a clue what to do in the simplest of first aid situations, let alone a more serious one. Simple things really can change outcomes and save lives.”
